Thrifting

Heelllloooooo!

Thrifting or more commonly known in the UK as charity shopping (I prefer the term thrifting as I am American at heart and because I think it sounds fancier...) in my experience, it is often a love or hate thing for most people. How do you feel about charity shopping Jazz? do I hear you ask? well I bloody love it! My mum used to take me charity shopping when I was younger and we just used to have such a good time and she gave me the confidence as a teenager, to go into charity shops with little or no care to what anyone else thought. I have to say however that as I've got into my very late teens (I'm 20 this year) and since I've had my own TV series so I'm seen as slightly famous, Ive found myself not as willing to charity shop because I think I feel like people will be judging me more?? which is ridiculous because I really enjoy it so I shouldn't care what people think...but sometimes I do...
Having said all this, I still do 90% of my shopping in overpriced, unethical but lovely and shiny hight street stores.
One of my best friends has never experienced the joys of thrifting so after days of badgering and explaining that you find the most unique, different and totally awesome clothes/accessories for insanely cheap prices (you can literally get five tops for the same price as one from a high street shop), your really helping a charity which earns you major karma points as well as justifying the 20 items you have bought and finally its really good fun! She reluctantly agreed to let me pop her charity shop cherry as a few days later I (literally) dragged her into The North Clwyd Animal Rescue shop and she's never looked back! We now go at least twice a month to all our local ones and to out of town ones if we can. Going with a friend is great for your conference when charity shopping and I find that I have so much more fun. Sometimes the stock won't be that great and you can get a little disheartened, if this is the case me and my friend liven things up by playing games such as dares, find the worst outfit and did someone die in this (you really don't want to know)....

Here are some of my recent charity shop finds.
This is one of my most recant and favourite finds, its punkyfish and I got it for around £2!

Tidy room, tidy mind

Heelllooooo

So Im going to talk about how tidying my room really does tidy my mind. Now anyone who knows me and has seen my room will be laughing already as they know that 99.9% of the time, my room is a complete and utter mess! May I say though in my defence I'm good when it comes to cleaning, I never leave dirty plates or food wrappers laying around and I can be found regularly and slightly obsessively wiping down all visible surfaces.
My main problem is that Im just so untidy. There never seems to be enough space or storage for all my stuff, everyone says thats because I have too much stuff...and that may just be a little bit true...so this year I am determined to keep my unruly clutter under control.

I have been living with my grandparents now for about four months and I have already outgrown their smallest bedroom...and when I say smallest, its actually a decent 12 by 9 foot but it just wasn't quite enough and my junk slowly started to spill over into the bigger spare room. I would just casually place one or two items from my room into the spare room's wardrobe or drawers until I was no longer placing them but forcefully stuffing them in. Then one day after walking into what had been the pristine spare room but was now merely a growing extension of my room, my nana suggested that "you might as well move into this room..which you've pretty much done already"....

So after three or four days (ok more like two weeks) of solid sorting, organising and building Ikea furniture I moved into my lovely 'new' room with a lovely new workstation and a lovely new set of rules from my nana..."as your living with me and especially as you now have the bigger room, you MUST under all circumstances keep it tidy!
"yes nana, I will"....."even when Im ill though?"
"YES!"
"even when my mates stay over"
"YES!"
"even if scientists prove that it is extremely bad for your health to have a tidy room?"
"...yes Jazz"
"ok but even if my Im ill, all my mates are staying over for the whole weekend, scientists have proven that it is actually lethal to tidy your room aaannddd arms and legs have fallen off in a freak accident...?"
"........."
She just walked away.....guess I won that one...

But in all seriousness I do feel soooo much better when my room is tidy, so I had a nosey on google and it turns out that there is a lot of truth in the saying 'a tidy room is a tidy mind'. Sadly for my excuses, many scientists and even oprah winfrey agree that living in an organised environment is good for your health and I definetly feel incredibly panicky, stressed and I would go as far as tearful when my room is untidy...but at the same time I incredibly panicky, stressed and tearful at the thought of tidying it...

Another thing that I found out is that not only does tidying reduce stress and anxiety but it can also reduce my waistline! According to Livestrong.com on average you burn around 200 calories per hour cleaning and tidying...ok so I think Im pretty much sold on regular tidying.

Here is a sneak peek at my organisation progress

Above is my Micke workstation from Ikea, the triple mirror, the two desk lamps and the large plastic drawers are from Argos and the smaller plastic drawers are from pound stretcher.
I absolutely adore this workstation! I may do a full review of it because there doesn't seem to be many out there but its ideal for makeup and crafts, behind my mirrors are two magnetic wipeboards which is just so useful, it has a lot of room underneath for more storage and it fits perfectly into the corner of your room...because its..a..corner...unit.....
(Micke workstation - http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40180061/#/40182201)

If corner units aren't your thing but you like this style then your in luck because the wonderful Ikea also do the same workstation in a straight desk unit. Oouu they think of everything!

Then there is all my bracelets, my rings and my necklaces.

Not being able to clearly see each piece of jewellery I own really panics and frustrates me so I keep all my necklaces, bracelets and earrings in 'type' order all nice and separated on the two lovely stands on top of my bookshelf and on the hanging rack which is pinned to the side of my wardrobe.

Above is my bookshelf (Its been in the family for over 15 years so goodness knows where its from!)

The first shelf has 5 small 3 drawes units which are from poundworld and they store my crafty things and jewellery making bits and bats like wire, beads, ribbons, pendants etc. They'd also be great for storing makeup like pencils or individual eyeshadows, Oh I just love these little drawes units because they're so handy and only £1!
The next shelf down has more crafty things like my sewing box, my scrapbook, my bedazzler and my big blue box of beads....phew try saying that 10 times fast!
Then bottom shelf has book and magazines as well as my travel makeup box. Then finally the basket on hold all the things that I use to manage my uncooperative hair, such as straighteners, curlers and industrial strength defrizzer.

Ouuu it all sound so lovely and organised doesn't it!...but then if we look slightly to the left....

Ok so maybe I still have a little more sorting to do....but at least moving around in my room is no longer a full blown obstacle course.

Its proving better for me to sticking to a regular tidying routine or just tidy as I go rather than letting it all build up to the point were I can no longer safely leave my bed without suffering a compete mental breakdown...as has been the cast most of my teenage years.

Anyway I hope this has given you some ideas or incentive to organise your room too! Trust me its so worth the hours of tediously picking through the piles of utter crap that you've hoarded 'just in case' you may possibly need it one day....Don't worry Im sooo guilty of doing this too!
I will be updating you on state of my room and when Im happier with it I will do a full room tour video on my YouTube channel so watch out for that!

Thanks for reading, see you soon! <3

The possibly the best cupcakes ever?

Heelllooo!

Well this post will be a little lighter (sadly not in calories though) to my first post, Its going to be about cake! and not just any cake, possibly the best cupcakes in the world ever!
I've chosen to write about/review them now rather than continue on from my first post because I am, as we speak eating one...which is very bad as its not only turning my keyboard very sticky but also I had fish and chips for tea...I'm just going to pretend, for tonight that I'm not on a new year's diet and enjoy my naughty treats.

Anyway on with the review...

So as you can see by the picture above they are made by Holly lane, they come in chocolate and strawberry and they boast a 'light sponge' with a 'yummy flavoured topping'...Tempted?...I certainly was!

Now I have to say I wasn't expecting much being that I found them in Aldi and weren't produced from a well known brand but my goodness was I shocked when I finally allowed myself to eat one!

Not only do they look just lovely, they also taste just lovely too and drum roll please.....They are 99p....yes 99p for four! This makes them great for parties or if you have a big family (big as in number not as in weight!)
I am a huge cake fan and have sampled more than my fair share of them...my thighs agree...but I am forever being disappointed by dry sponge and overpowering, 'fake' tasting icing but these...oohh these are different!

They both have THE moistest sponge I've ever come across! Even after they have been opened and not kept in an air tight container, they stay moist! for ages! Which is great for me as I'm really lazy with storing food, I just open it, eat some then pop it back in the cupboard and hope for the best.

To add to the list of things I love about these cupcakes, they have bloody gorgeous icing! The strawberry icing is so subtle and delicate whereas the chocolate icing is very rich so is better for people with a sweet tooth, like me. There is just enough of it too, not to much that its sickly bit not enough that your left chewing just sponge.

....I had to take a bite...for picture purposes of course!...

Ok now not the not so great bit...the calories...oh god dare I look!

Strawberry                                              Chocolate
216 cals                                                  198 cals
23.3g of sugar                                        23.6g of sugar
11.0g of fat                                            7.3g of fat
3.0g sat fats                                           1.5g of sat fats

Actually not to bad for a treat, Bonus! So I go forth and eat cake!.... I know I will!

Thanks for reading and it would be jolly nice if you would check back soon :)

P.s. For anyone with allergies, they are both contain traces of nuts, wheat, gluten, eggs, soya and dairy products. Oh but they do contain traces of celery, thats something healthy at least! :)

Here I go!

Here I go...out into the big wide world of blogging!

As I sit here in my 'new' (I've just moved from one room in my grandparents house to the one next door) clean, organised room filled with all my new hopes and dreams, I feel for the first time in a long while, excited and not completely lost.

Now don't get me wrong I've had an amazing life so far filled with so many amazing adventures, more that most people would have in their entire lives in fact! I've travelled to over 18 different countries, made six award winning documentaries about my life for BBC3, been highly commended for Radars young person of the year, trekked through primary amazon rainforest and am about to publish an autobiography to name but a few.....but the last few years and in particular the last few months of 2012 have not been very fun, in fact most of the time its been bloody awful!

Without getting a bit full on for a first post, my 2012 has been a year of emotional roller coasters, family meltdowns, depression, anxiety, the need for a complete career change and sudden, severe health problems. All these, the good and the bad have left me crawling into 2013 exhausted, begging for mercy and at breaking point....but thankfully after a month rest and of tying up lose ends, I finally have the strength to pick myself up, wipe away the tears of passed heart ache and start loving my life as I once did.

This blog along with my new YouTube channel (AllThatJazzBeauty) will be a positive place for me to share my changing life and for you to follow my journey.

In the next few posts I will be explaining a little more about last year...oh the horror.., more about myself (even though some of you may know me quite well from my TV shows...see the about me page for more info) and more about what I have planned for this year. There will also be lots of lovely posts about fashion, makeup, beauty products and all that jazz as well as useful hints and tips, crafts, traveling, vegetarian cooking, and a little about living as a four foot tall teenager.

I would love it if you showed your support by following my blog, sharing it with others or subscribing to my YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/AllThatJazzBeauty
Oh and don't forget to comment! :)

Thanks for reading <3
